
Biography
This is my creative courswork peice for Communication & Culture A2. It focuses on Lady Gaga's outfits in a selection of her music videos and their symbolism.
Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on March 28th 1986 in Manhattan. Having sold 27 million albums and 146 singles globally, she is one of the best-selling musicians of all time (as of January 2016). However, her music is not the only thing that inspires so many people; she is also known for her outrageous outfits and messages of self-empowerment, particularly aimed at members of the LGBT community.
As her influences such as David Bowie and Madonna, are clearly shown in her attire, she makes a very good postmodern case study. Her sexuality is also portrayed as ambiguous in all of her videos, supporting queer theory's idea that sexuality is fluid. As well as this, her music videos give a very strong representation of women, making her popular with some feminists. I will discuss these ideas further on each page, and have given some examples of how she is a postmodern artist in the powerpoint below:
