I have considered what font styles to use in my music magazine.

I have considered the following 12 fonts to use in my production, choosing them because I felt they were suitable to represent rock music, and decided on or eliminated a few:

I think Goudy Stout would be appropriate to use for my masthead, as the letters are well-spaced, but do not take up as much room as Blackoak Std for example. It's also very clear and therefore easy to read. This is important for a masthead as I will want my audience to read and remember the name of my magazine. Moreover, I feel this font is softer than the other, more jagged styles like Wide Latin. As a result, it looks more feminine and will therefore appeal to my target audience.

Other fonts such as Rosewood Std. are hard to read and so would not be suitable in my work. However as I am targeting a female audience, I think Kristen ITC would be a sensible choice as it it sans-serif and therefore softer than the bold, masculine fonts. Having said that I should use a variety of fonts to avoid a plain look, and the bold writing represents rock music in the typical style.

I have refined the selection down to the following fonts;

  • Kristen ITC

  • Gill Sans Ultra Bold'

  • Adobe Heiti Std'

  • Goudy Stout (for the masthead only)

  • Wide Latin
